2010-12-27: In 2009 the international specialist group from IAEA reviewed the activities at the Oskarshamn Nuclear Power Plant. After a recent follow-up of the company’s plans of action and improvement suggestions it is now clear that OKG has advanced well in its endeavour to attain high international standards. Special good marks are given to the method to minimise the spread of contamination as well as to the handling and check-up on working equipment. The process for experience learning however requires further improvements.

2010-12-22: Unit Oskarshamn 3 (O3) was restarted yesterday afternoon on 21 December, one day earlier than stated in the original timetable. Alstom has devised a modified sustainable solution which is possible to install during summer 2011. 2010-10-28: OKG has come to an agreement with the contractor of the new turbine equipment at unit Oskarshamn 3 (O3) that a temporary solution on the verified problems with the defective turbine bearings shall be performed.
– This solution will provide us with the required conditions to have a stable supply capacity during the winter, says plant manager Carl-Johan Kemgren. The measure in question will certainly involve that the present outage is extended, this is however preferred to the considerably longer downtime required in order to await permanent solutions.

2010-09-30: Oskarshamn 1 was on last Sunday evening again synchronized to the grid after a 43 days long stop due to maintenance work. The unit was however taken off the grid again later that same night due to problems with parts of the turbine equipment. The unit was in operation again on Wednesday and it has since then become evident that a planned operational interruption is required in order to perform measures on the flanges of the cooling system for the reactor vessel upper head.

Press Release: Security of Supply Precedes New Maximum Power at OKG

2010-09-24: OKG has decided, during the on-coming cold season, to prioritize security of supply before the need of finalizing the trial operations program for the modernized Oskarshamn 3. The production capacity during winter is thus planned to an average of 1,100 MW, which essentially corresponds to the earlier highest supply capability. On 1 March the operational management, however, hopes to resume the tests which are a prerequisite for being able to produce at the new maximum capacity of 1.450 MW.

2010-09-15: During the final stage of the yearly outage at Oskarshamn 1 OKG has reported, to the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, insufficient auxiliary power capacity in the system which cools the fuel during the standstill as a deficiency. 2010-07-22: Oskarshamn 3 (O3) was synchronized to the grid again on Wednesday July 21. The reactor was taken off the power grid on July 13 due to a heavy thunderstorm. The output will however be limited for some time and will be on circa 75 per cent (760 MW), as a consequence of problems with the regulation in the turbine condensate system and the previously identified vibrations. With the purpose to attend to these problems, unit Oskarshamn 3 will be shut down for measures between the 4th and 12th of August.

2010-03-01: After nearly two months of test operation of the modernized third reactor in Oskarshamn, a temporary operational interruption was performed in the middle of February. The date set for resuming the operation has now been postponed. The reason being that the delivered important valves controlling the turbine steam flow have faulty construction and require reconstruction. The new starting date for a few more weeks of test operation has now been preliminary set to March 22.
