The operation at Unit Oskarshamn 1 (O1) was on Thursday 2 February resumed after a three-month long shut down for maintenance. In connection with the restart of the unit, the turbine needs to be balanced, which will entail several operational interruptions before the unit again can be operated at maximum power.
– It is of course very unfortunate that the dropping temperature coincides with OKG having to perform measures at two of our units. We work very hard at trying to solve this and we expect that the present situation will improve during the following few days, says Ingemar Engkvist, acting Managing Director of OKG.
During the three-month long shut down of unit O1, a total overhaul of the turbine facility has been conducted which has resulted in various adjustments and measures in order to ensure long-term operation. Furthermore, preventive measures have been taken on the reactor containment spray system.
On account of the extensive turbine service, a number of turbine balancing processes are required before the unit can be operated at maximum power. This means that the unit will be synchronized to the grid and then again be shut down several times during the following days. Stable operation is expected at the beginning of next week.
At unit Oskarshamn 3, work is in process with measure being performed on the steam line valves that after regular testing did not open as anticipated, a condition for full-scale production. The primary measures taken have not remedied the failure. The valves will now be dismantled in order to remedy the problem. The operational interruption which was planned to end on 31 January is now extended to 10 February when the unit is planned to again be in operation.
