Press Release: Oskarshamn 3 has resumed trial operation

On February 12, Oskarshamn 3 was taken from the grid in order for a planned operational interruption to be performed. The aim was to perform work such as measures in one of the facility’s safety systems and conduct inspections to enable continued ascent to full power after last year’s extensive modernization work. In connection to taking the unit from the grid, problems were discovered regarding the valves controlling the steam from the reactor to the turbine condenser. After extensive analyses performed it was established that the valves had a faulty construction and that reconstruction was required. An action plan was developed and the operational interruption extended. After having performed extensive work with redesign and modification that went according to the time plan and followed by thorough inspections, unit Oskarshamn 3 was able to restart on March 16.
 
On March 17, a planned turbine trip was realized to perform the final tests on the redesigned valves. The testing had the expected result and the function of the valves was verified.
 
A short time after the tests, a new malfunction was identified in the turbine plant, resulting in a scram. Analyses have been performed followed by corrected operating procedures and updated instructions. Due to this event, the restart of unit Oskarshamn 3 was moved to March 20.
 
In connection with the restart, the trial operation period is resumed, involving continued inspections and tests of all functions at the unit as well as a continued ascent to full power.
 
Oskarshamn 1 and Oskarshamn 2 deliver electricity at full power.
