Milestone Reached in the Dismantling Process at Unit Oskarshamn 2Published 2019-01-22 16:11
The work on cutting the dismantled components from the reactor vessel at unit Oskarshamn 2 was recently completed, which means that yet another milestone in the radiological dismantling process was reached.
– The work completed is considered a milestone in the history of unit O2, says the Managing Director of OKG, Johan Dasht. The work on dismantling and cutting of internals and placing these in steel containers has been performed after the unit was cleared of all the spent fuel. This is an important stage in the process, which has a positive effect on the radiological work environment and which also facilitates the continued dismantling project.
All handling of materials has taken place under water and the work has been completed on time and without any failures. What remains is transporting the final waste container off the site and the decommissioning of the reactor hall at unit O2. Corresponding activities will be initiated at unit O1 in March, estimated to be completed within one year.
