2017 – a watershed in OKG`s corporate history

2017 was a better year for electricity generation for Oskarshamn 3 (O3), even though deliveries to the public did not reach the previous year's record levels. The year also saw work to implement the decision to decommission Oskarshamn 1 (O1) and Oskarshamn 2 (O2). So 2017 was a concrete watershed in the company's history.

Over the first seven months of last year for 99.3% of the time Oskarshamn 3 delivered climate efficient electricity at maximum capacity. In 2017 the power supplied totalled just over 9.3 billion kilowatt hours. Generation did not reach the record level of 10.3 billion kilowatt hours in 2016 because of two factors. The annual maintenance outage in the autumn was extended for two weeks, due in part to additional work on the residual heat removal system and in part to an eleven day outage in November to replace a damaged fuel assembly.

Last year Oskarshamn 1 completed its last operating season. Up to June 2017 O1 delivered 1.7 billion kilowatt hours of electricity. After that, work started on implementing the decision to decommission the facility. In 2018 all spent fuel will be transported to the interim facility for spent nuclear fuel, Clab. This corresponds to the work completed for Oskarshamn 2 in 2017.

"The change to the business that the decommissioning decision entails has meant that the size of the organisation has been reduced", says Head of Human Resources, Lotta Sätterlund. "Though natural wastage, specific individual agreements and redundancies the number of staff was reduced by 204 in 2017. So the number of employees at year end was 662, compared to 866 at the end of the previous year".

In this context Lotta Sätterlund highlights the value of effective collaboration with TRR, established through the outplacement department created by the company at the beginning of August in Oskarshamn.

"This has resulted in twenty eight of the people who have gone through the organisation getting new jobs by the autumn", concludes Lotta Sätterlund. "Our ambition is to maintain this support function for at least the first six months of 2018. However, our goal is for more than 90% of jobseekers to have new employment by autumn 2019.
