Segmentation of internal components

At the end of April the agency approved the safety report that applies for segmentation of internal components at O2. This was the last piece of the puzzle that was missing before segmentation could be started. On May 14 an important milestone was passed, when the first segmentation could be carried out.

"After solid preparations that go far back, to before the department for decommissioning was formed in 2016, we now look forward with both excitement and caution to see how segmentation functions in our plant," decommissioning manager Andreas Roos observes.

Earlier in April equipment arrived from the USA and was installed in the reactor hall where test operations have been performed. On May 14 the segmentation could then begin. The first parts to be segmented are the moderator tank upper head and steam separators, which is done with a circular saw and plasma under water. The segmentation will now continue for a full year until completion next spring, if all goes according to plan.

"We are passing an historic milestone in the history of the plant. Now we are focusing on performing the work in a safe, efficient manner," CEO VD Johan Dasht concludes.
