  • Milestone reached in decommissioning preparations for O2

    Oskarshamn 2 (O2) was drained of irradiated fuel last summer. Another important milestone in the decommissioning preparations was reached on Friday, December 8 when the last, fresh fuel from the fuel pool at O2 was transported to Oskarshamn 3 (O3) where it will be reconstructed and eventually used.

    As part of the decommissioning of O1 and O2, OKG has today entered into an agreement with Damen Oskarshamnsvarvet. This involves the local manufacture of the steel tanks to be used for storing the reactor parts that are to be cut into smaller pieces.

    OKG's Board of Directors has decided to invest in a complementary security system at Oskarshamn 3 (O3), a so-called independent core cooling. The system will be completed at some point during 2020 and will amount to a total cost of 865 million SEK. The investment is a fundamental prerequisite for the OKG organisation's ability to secure long-term supplies of weather-independent and fossil-free power from Sweden's largest single production plant.

    After an operating season with very high production availability, it is time for the annual maintenance shutdown at Oskarshamn 3 (O3). From the turn of the year 2016-2017 until July, O3 has delivered at maximum capacity for 99.3% of the time. Now, 46 busy days of maintenance await which are focused on safety and quality in order to ensure stable power supplies in the coming 2017-2018 operating period.

  • Early Retirement for Pioneer Plant after 45 Years of Service

    Unit Oskarshamn 1 (O1) is in many respects a pioneer plant and represents an epoch in Swedish engineering. It is the first commercial reactor in Sweden, the first reactor in the world in which personnel conducted work in a reactor vessel that had been in operation and the first unit at which a major modernisation project was performed. The year after the decision was made in 2015 to permanently shut down the plant was the third best production year ever for the unit and this past Saturday, on 17 June 2017, unit O1 delivered its final kilowatt hours of electricity.

  • The Number of Notices of Termination at OKG Lower than Expected

    The proceedings regarding the notice of termination at OKG, decided on in November 2016, have recently been concluded. The number of notices of termination in 2017 has been estimated at 84 employees, instead of 200 individuals initially estimated at the time of the notice of termination given in 2016. All employees concerned by the decision will be informed by the end of May. The Managing Director, Johan Dasht, points out that this is in all respects a process just as a distressing as necessary.

  • OKG 2016 – Record and Reduction

    2016 was a year of extremes for OKG. Unit Oskarshamn 3 broke a new production record and for the first time in one and the same calendar year, more than 10 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were delivered to the public. At the same time, adaptation was initiated concerning an organisation involving two out of three reactors being decommissioned. The reduced activities entailed that 500 jobs were cut this past year.
