Time for the Outage at Unit Oskarhamn 3

Pressrelease Tuesday, May 26, 2015

After a peaceful operating season with stable electricity deliveries, it is now time for the annual outage at unit Oskarshamn 3 (O3), an outage which involves a great deal of work to be performed in a short period of time.

On Sunday 24 May, unit O3 was taken off the external grid prior to the start of this year's outage, which is a short outage period of 21 days. Unit O3 is scheduled to be in operation again on Saturday 13 June.

Safety always comes first. The operations department has been provided with additional resources during the outage, personnel who will walk around in the facility with one mission only; to detect and prevent any work environment hazards and to reinforce a professional behaviour.

– We have also appointed a coordinator in the reactor containment who will be able to resolve any issues that may arise and who will make sure that the work proceeds as intended, says Johan Dasht, production manager at O3. There are also dedicated safety coaches who support works that require special work environmental focus.

The time-determining works during this year's outage concern refuelling and rearranging fuel assemblies in the reactor vessel. Major focus will also be put on inspection of the high pressure turbine valves in the conventional turbine plant. Two pumps in the main cooling water system and the high pressure preheater in the turbine plant feed water system will also be inspected.

Service of pumps in the main recirculation system and on various valves will be performed in important safety systems related to the reactor vessel. Regarding electric and I&C equipment, the replacement of the radiation monitoring in the main stack is a major work and several switchgear units will also be replaced.

The annual outage at unit Oskarshamn 1 (O1) has been completed and the work required prior to the restart has been initiated. The safety modernisation in progress at unit Oskarshamn 2 (O2) is currently in an intense stage with the start-up of a number of various systems and components.
