Power Uprate at Unit Oskarshamn 2 Postponed
Pressrelease Thursday, June 18, 2015
OKG has recently renegotiated the supplier contract concerning the power uprate at unit Oskarshamn 2 (O2). The new contract states that the power uprate on circa 180 MW planned to take place in 2017, has been turned into an option. At present, no decision has been made regarding when this option shall be redeemed.
The third stage of the modernisation of Oskarshamn 2 (O2) is currently in an intense phase involving commissioning and testing prior to the restart scheduled to take place on 20 December. Within the scope of the installation work already performed, a coming capacity increase at the unit from the present 661 MW to 840 MW has been accounted for in the estimate. The power uprate was scheduled to take place in 2017 and would thus be the fourth and last stage of the modernisation of unit O2. The agreement with the supplier contracted to carry out the capacity increase has, however, been renegotiated and the work scheduled to be performed in 2017 has been postponed indefinitely.
– The current market forecasts indicate that there is no need for such a major power addition at present, says the MD, Johan Svenningsson. Since the facility has already to a great extent been dimensioned for the uprated power, the contract has now been redrafted in order to enable us to instead call for such an increase when in demand by the market.
At unit Oskarshamn 1 (O1), testing is in progress after this year's outage and the facility has therefore varying production numbers at present. The annual outage at unit Oskarshamn 3 (O3) has been completed according to plan and analysis and measures are currently being performed after a disturbance in the turbine plant was detected during the power ascent.
