Unit Oskarshamn 3 Resumes Operation after Successful Measures Taken

Pressrelease Friday, December 09, 2016

Unit Oskarshamn 3 (O3) is since 8 December again delivering climate efficient electricity to the Swedish grid after a well performed core leak detection and detected fuel damage.

On 27 November, the production at unit O3 was temporarily shut down to handle fuel damage. On 8 December, unit O3 was again delivering electricity to the Swedish grid, nearly one day earlier than scheduled.

The time critical activities concerned work in the reactor hall involving for instance core leak detection of all fuel assemblies and refuelling. Once leak detection for all fuel assemblies had been completed, the fuel damage was finally detected and the fuel assembly replaced.

– All the activities have been completed with safety first as our priority as well as with a high quality. It is a good thing to be able to restart the unit with the fuel damage remedied and in addition nearly one day earlier than scheduled, I would like to praise everyone involved for their good work, says Mats Ekblad, production manager at unit O3.

The power will be gradually increased and unit O3 is scheduled to deliver electricity at maximum power on Thursday 15 December.

The oil leak at unit Oskarshamn 1 (O1) has been remedied and the final measures for the scheduled restart of the unit are currently being taken.
